Facilitator's message, April 30

Hi everyone,

We are now close to the end of Week 1 of 2030 Compass CoLab – Exploring synergies and trade-offs between Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Many thanks to those of you who have made contributions during this week. We now have close to 100 assessments of the synergies and trade-offs between SDGs, and we are looking forward to seeing more contributions over the weekend.

We noticed that several contributions have assessed the interactions between SDGs highly complementary (+3) for all three levels (high, medium, and low) for the chosen factor. We appreciate that in many cases, the interactions between SDGs are strong and highly reinforcing regardless of different contextual factors and characteristics.

In this exercise, however, we are most interested in identifying situations where there is a difference between the scores for countries that are at varying levels for a given factor. Therefore, we would like to ask you to think about how your chosen factor may influence the interaction between SDGs and try to capture this influence by providing different interactions scores for countries that are at high, medium, and low levels for the factor you selected.

We encourage you to visit the About 2030 Compass CoLab and Resources on factors pages for more details on how we have defined factors. The Resources page also explains what defines the top and bottom quarter of countries for all 18 factors, and those values may help to spur your thinking.

If you have made a contribution that has the same score for all three values, we invite you revisit it. You can make changes by selecting the Edit button.

For those who have not yet contributed, it shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes to evaluate one SDG interaction. And as noted before, this week we hope you can focus on interactions that are most closely connected to your area of expertise.

Next week, we will invite you to submit SDG interactions in areas adjacent to your field of expertise and also to comment on the submissions of others.

If you have questions, comments, or issues please get in touch.

Best wishes,

Sara
